Helping Domino’s build the superior mobile experiences that made them an industry leader.

Domino’s needs little introduction. In 2009, Domino’s former CEO Patrick Doyle kicked off the Pizza Turnaround campaign. This “mea culpa” moment saw a revitalization of their brand and a focus on technology that set them far apart from their competition. In 2011, we worked with Domino’s to optimize their iPhone and Android apps and subsequently cement their position as a disrupter and innovator in the pizza space with new products and features like the 3D Pizza Builder, wearable support, and the pizza tracker. All this work together resulted in higher tickets, greater order accuracy, higher customer satisfaction, and digital ordering accounting for more than 40 percent of their U.S. sales.

The Challenge

The existing site was slow, hard to navigate on mobile, and disconnected from Jimmy John’s evolving digital ecosystem. It lacked modern architecture and couldn’t keep up with peak traffic or changing business needs. These limitations directly impacted customer experience, order conversion, and operational flexibility.

The Vision

The goal was to make jimmyjohns.com feel as fast and reliable as ordering a sandwich in-store. That meant delivering a frictionless experience for customers, while giving Jimmy John’s teams more control over content, promotions, and performance. The site also needed to scale confidently during spikes and simplify maintenance long-term.

The Process

We began with a full audit of the existing site’s architecture, performance, and user flows. Discovery sessions helped align the project around real customer needs and business goals. The design team reimagined the UI to reflect the Jimmy John’s brand—bold, efficient, and easy to use. We built a modern React-based frontend and connected it to backend ordering APIs, enabling fast transitions from menu browsing to checkout. Mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and SEO were treated as foundational. For hosting, we migrated the site to Google Cloud Platform, setting up CI/CD pipelines, auto-scaling infrastructure, and performance monitoring to ensure uptime during high-volume periods and promotional pushes. Leveraging Google Cloud allowed us to boost reliability, streamline deployments, and handle traffic spikes with confidence—achieving a 99.99% uptime rate and improving average page load times by over 30%.

The Solution

The redesigned jimmyjohns.com delivered a clean, intuitive experience that worked beautifully across devices. Customers could find what they needed fast—whether placing an order, browsing the menu, or redeeming rewards. Performance improved dramatically, mobile usability increased, and internal teams gained better control over updates and content.

Hosting the site on Google Cloud made operations more resilient and scalable, with reduced downtime and easier deployment. Detroit Labs continues to support the platform today, ensuring that new features, infrastructure upgrades, and integrations are handled seamlessly.

The new website didn’t just meet technical goals—it became a vital touchpoint for customers and a flexible, future-ready tool for the business.
